Sprue bits basing: train track edition.

Continuing my personal quest to make some basing decorations for each mini of the month I get with the sprue it came off of. I actually managed to base this one with *just* sprue bits this time; I usually at least add some flock or sharp sand before I paint it. This time it was a Leagues of Votann space dwarf, so I thought train tracks would fit their industrial vibe. Then on a whim I decided to theme the Squat around the train tracks. Can you guess what character I based Tómas Tankvélin on?

Construction:

- I cut off all the nubs off from one long, straight piece of sprue to use as the rail, and carefully shaved the nubs down with a Stanley knife. Then I cut four smaller bits off to use as the sleepers, not really caring about shaving them down. (Pic 4 shows a proof of concept model after this step, held together with blutac.)

- I glued the sleeper bits together into two planks, keeping the wider sides facing the same way (pic 5). I also put some paint bottles on top to keep them flat while the glue cured. Then I filed them down to about 1.5mm, to make them look more plank-shaped (pic 6).

- Then I marked where I wanted the sleepers to go, cut them to shape, stuck them down, then did the same to the rail (pics 7 & 8).

- I then gathered together all the sprue nubs I'd cut off and chopped them into rocky, rubble-looking bits (pic 9). Then, section by section, I added poly cement glue to the base and showered it in rubbley bits until the tracks were covered (with blutac covering the bits where I wanted the mini's feet to be glued on).

- Then I painted the base. Also at some other point I painted the mini and stuck that on it too (pics 1, 2 & 3).

C&C welcome!

How do you do, fellow Squats?

This was this month's MotM, so your sub may be getting a lot of these posts around now, but what the hey.

Here is my first (and currently only) Kin. Their name is Tómas Tankvélin, from the Hearth of Sodor. I'm hoping you can guess the theme I was going for.

This wee, stocky one was a joy to paint. Leagues are now definitely on the list of things to buy when I have the money now. And pretty high on the list too.

C&C welcome!

Under my Spwarf's coat & base.

The current Warhammer mini of the month is a Kin from the Leagues of Votann (Space Dwarfs). I thought a train track base would be keeping in theme, but it does obscure the legs completely.

So please enjoy these pictures of a kneecap and parts of a base that will never be seen again!

Still a WIP, but bonus points if you can guess the theme.
