I am looking to leave my job to be a SAHM now that we’ve got more income to replace my current income. I’m 5 months right now due 9/14. My plan is to start FMLA on 8/24 and activate my STD policy as soon as I can. Once my STD is up I would “quit” (I would give my notice while on leave to give a proper two week notice). My job has a decent bit of assigned uniforms/gear/equipment. Plus my office needing to be cleared.

If I give notice in advance so I can turn my things in before FMLA, can they fire me/let me go sooner? I’ve never left a job that I like and would like to come back to so my anxiety of leaving on good terms is crazy right now.

If it matters I’m in NC working for local government.
