Been running a lot of token-heavy workloads lately, KB creation, transcript processing, content synthesis. Was looking at an outrageous bill for Opus 4.7 costs through the normal API path.
Then Owl Alpha dropped on OpenRouter. $0 input, $0 output, 1M context window. So I ran the full pipeline 100M tokens generated in about 24 hours. Effectively free.
What I used it for: Feeding long documents, research dumps, and multi-source transcripts through a Hermes agent pipeline that synthesizes everything into structured briefs. Previously would have cost $25/M output tokens if using Opus 4.7. This time: nothing.
Not a flex genuinely running production workloads on this now. The capability is real. If you're building anything that processes large volumes of text, it's worth testing Owl Alpha on OpenRouter before paying elsewhere.
Happy to answer questions about the workflow if anyone's curious.
