Several years ago, my doctor told me that people with POTS have “high sympathetic tone” meaning that our sympathetic nervous system is always active (I know you all already know this) but I’ve been thinking about it more as I’m 16 months postpartum. I felt AMAZING during pregnancy and up until about 10 months postpartum. But now I’ve noticed my symptoms coming back, and the main one I notice is just how drained simple tasks can make me. For example, the bedtime routine for my daughter is not difficult, but I am EXHAUSTED by the end of it. Travel has always made me EXHAUSTED - it usually takes me at least week to get back on track. Being out and about with a lot of stimuli (people, cars, etc) can make me really tired too! I understand that I’m so lucky to have mild symptoms on the spectrum of what people experience with our syndrome (I’ve never passed out, I can work full time, and I’m successfully raising a toddler!) Anyways, I’m not exactly sure what I want to get out of this post - I think just knowing I’m not alone. And that the stimuli of parenting a young child, or traveling, or driving, can make others feel drained too 😕
