Last year, there were many posts saying that J-1 visa was denied if you were in US on a B1/B2 and didn't take step 3.

However, I am in US on a different visa ( dependent) and don't have step 3. I am going back to my home country for J1 visa interview.

Did step 3 came up in Visa Interview for dependents as well ( J2, F2) ?

Is there anyone who was in similar situation?

Any advice would be helpful.
