In September 2025, the interim government led by Prof Muhammad Yunus halted vaccine procurement through Unicef and shifted to an open tender system, the Science. org report says.
Unicef strongly opposed the change, warning it could disrupt the immunisation system and trigger an outbreak.
“For God’s sake … don’t do this,” Unicef Representative to Bangladesh Rana Flowers told interim government’s health adviser Nurjahan Begum, who did not respond to questions from Science.
