Almost got scammed finding housing for my internship, so I built something. Would love ASU feedback
Heard about this happening to another ASU student recently and it scared me.
He found a sublease on Reddit, paid $1,200 on CashApp, flew to New York, and the landlord had never heard of him. The person he rented from had been evicted months ago and was running the same scam across multiple cities.
Showed up with a suitcase and nowhere to go. Internship started the next morning.
This is way more common than people think. We're remote, on a deadline, can't tour in person. Easy targets.
This genuinely frustrated me enough that I started building Nestu, a platform for verified student subleases. Not looking to promote it, honestly just want feedback from real students before I build the wrong thing.
If you've ever struggled finding short term housing for an internship I'd love to hear your experience in the comments.
