Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice to optimize my VR setup with a Pimax Crystal Light.
My PC:
- RTX 5070 Ti
- Ryzen 7800X3D
- 32GB DDR5
I mainly play Assetto Corsa Competizione, and occasionally F1 25.
Current situation
I’ve spent quite a bit of time tweaking settings across Pimax Play, SteamVR, and in-game, but it always ends up being a trade-off between image quality and performance.
So far, the best balance I’ve found gives me around 60–72 FPS, depending on the track and number of cars.
I’m currently using SteamVR, because I haven’t managed to get OpenComposite + OpenXR Toolkit working properly (the DLL crashes on game launch).
My current settings
Pimax Play:
- Refresh rate: 72 Hz
- Image quality: 0.80
- Quad View: Ultimate (not sure it has any effect in SteamVR with ACC)
- Rendering quality: Center
- GPU upscaling: None
- Sharpness: 1.0
- Smart Smoothing: Off
SteamVR:
- Resolution: 100% (3448 x 4080)
- Motion smoothing: Off
ACC settings:
- Resolution scale: 70%
- VR pixel density: 100%
- Anti-aliasing: Temporal (Epic), no Gen5
- DLSS / FSR: Off
- Most settings: Epic (distance, shadows, effects, etc.)
Interestingly, switching between High and Epic doesn’t seem to impact FPS that much (only a few frames).
What I’ve tried
- DLSS / FSR / NIS (both in-game and via Pimax Play) → noticeable visual degradation and artifacts while racing, so I stopped using them
- Various combinations of resolution scaling → always a trade-off between clarity (especially distant braking points) and performance
Questions
- For a similar setup, what FPS are you getting in ACC with the Crystal Light?
- Is there a “known good” configuration (Pimax Play + SteamVR + in-game) that gives a better balance?
- Are there specific settings that are known to be very expensive in ACC VR but not visually impactful?
- Is it really worth pushing to get OpenXR working (OpenComposite + PimaxXR)? Did you see a significant performance gain vs SteamVR?
I’m especially interested in setups optimized for consistency (stable frametime) rather than max FPS, since I mostly do longer races.
Thanks a lot for your help!
