I was rewatching some clips of Azula fighting against Katara and it truly dawned on me that Katara always had the upper hand.
It led me to ask myself if it was solely because she was a better fighter (despite Azula getting trained from a young age) or if there was any other reasons, such as maybe their elements. And yes I know water extinguishes fire but I meant more than that.
Remember that one episode where the groupe encountered this old lady, and they discovered that she was literally sucking the water out of all those guards, I think. Katara imposed on herself these limits that she will never cross.
But if Azula was too a water bender, I’m like a 100% positive she would never shy away from that, and maybe even bend blood. So I believe that if they were both water benders, Azula would most likely beat Katara.
