A few quick tips for drawing the wrath of a spouse/parent/siblings should you wish to bring catch back:

  1. If you can, do it outside.

  2. Double bag everything for the car journey, always bandy to carry a bin-liner roll in the car anyways

  3. After you're done, wipe it all down, then go over it again, a small bit still smells.

  4. If you're doing it in the kitchen sink, you are a brave person, if you must then follow the clean with a blast of mild bleach or anionic surfactant containing cleaning spray. Let it sit for a bit to really attack the fish slime.

  5. For the love of god empty the bin right away afterwards.

  6. If it's Pollock, make sure you process it ASAP and clean with extreme prejudice, rancid Pollock will make a room radioactive for weeks. Especially the skin.

  7. If it's ray or rock salmon make sure you bleed it at the shoreline first(cut gills/ take off tails for dogfish or de-wing the ray at the shoreline). Tastes awful if there's a lot of blood in their meat.

  8. Last but not least, a dull knife is more dangerous than a sharp one, if you're needing to put pressure on the cut you can't control it's direction. That and you mangle the fish meat.
