Quest 3 Liquid Damage (Wine) - Left Panel Dark/No Backlight. Need technical advice on next steps.
TL;DR: Wine spill on my Quest 3. Disassembled and cleaned everything with 99% IPA. Right eye is perfect, left eye remains dark (no image/no backlight). Is it a blown backlight driver on the mobo or a dead internal LCD flex?
The Situation:
I’m a mechatronics engineer, so I felt comfortable doing a full teardown. I had a wine spill that reached the left optical module. After a deep cleaning of the motherboard, pop connectors, and the exterior of the optical blocks, the headset boots up fine and the right display is 100% functional.
Symptoms:
Left Eye: Completely dark. Even with a high-intensity flashlight test against the lens, I can't see "ghost images," suggesting either the MIPI data line is dead or the panel logic isn't powering up at all.
Flex Cables: Inspected Flex A4224 (Left) and A4324 (Right). No visible corrosion or burnt pins on the motherboard headers.
Observations: I noticed the left lens barrel has a small vent/gap where the wine likely seeped in. There’s a chance the liquid reached the internal LED strip or the panel’s COG (Chip on Glass) area.
