1889 Antique E. Rivett Type 1A Faneuil Watch Tool Co Lathe Serial Number 511 - USA

Hi Everyone,

I just acquired this antique E. Rivett watchmakers lathe. This was made sometime around 1889-1890 and is a type 1A Faneuil Watch Tool Co with the matching serial numbers of 511 on the base, the headstock and the tailstock. I read that they only made about 500 of these 1A style lathes, starting with serial number 101.

This machine has been retro fitted with modern equipment to make this a well working lathe, and is great working condition. (see video)

I am posting to see what people think of this, and to see what actual use this machine could have today? I am trying to figure out whether I keep it or part ways with it.

What do you think? Have you seen a type 1A E. Rivett Faneuil Tool Watch Co Lathe before? Have you used one and if so for what use?

It came with all of the accessories pictured.

If you have any info or anything to add, please let me know as I love learning about new things.

Thanks for looking!

Identification of Vintage Zookeeper Cartoon Strips Pieces

Hi Everyone,

I just bought these pieces, and I am wondering if anyone can identify who the artist is or what cartoon strip publication they came from?

I have spent a good amount of time trying to research possible artists or publications, but I have come up empty.

My curiosity got the best of me, and I opened up the back to see if I could find more info. There is no visible signature, just a couple of numbers.

These are not on paper. They are on clear laminate type sheets. There are 4 sheets (one for each color) stacked on top of each other to make the main image. (see detailed pictures)

I know very little about this type of artwork and would take any information that anyone would like to share..

Have you seen these before or recognize any of the characters?

Thanks very much for your time!

Hi Everyone,

This is a framed piece that has 2 documents from the Revolutionary War:
-1780 Discharge Papers for a soldier Elisha Walker - Signed by Samuel Holden Parsons
-1778 Continental Currency

This was a particular busy and interesting month of Parsons' life. This document was signed on Sept. 20th 1780, just one day before Benedict Arnold met with British Major John André to plot the surrender of West Point.

Parsons' played an important role in uncovering the plot by Arnold and André and eventually served as a judge in the trial that decided the fate of the André as a conspirator of treason with Arnold. Later that month Parsons was promoted to Major General of the Continental Army.

The back has historical information that adds to the story (see pictures)

The piece was framed by the well-known Charles Edwin Puckett, who did preservation framing for top tier collectors and major institutions like universities and museums.

I am posting because I thought this was a very cool piece of history, and I was wondering how many of these discharge papers have you seen? Are they rare? I am always trying to learn more so if anyone has any information they would like to add, it would be much appreciated.

I am also wondering if anyone knows an estimate of value of a piece like this? I would like to sell and am not sure the best avenue?

Thanks for looking!

Dave
