If it wasn't obvious, this was an attempt to create a somewhat plausible EC landslide where a winner loses the PV. The internal logic is that Ford and Dole do somewhat better in their debates and divert more resources as well as visits to Hawaii, Pennsylvania, and New York (at minor but ultimately survivable expenses of some states they closely lost in, and some states they closely won in OTL). This ultimately results in a 356-182 EC split while the Ford-Dole ticket loses narrowly.
