These sliding doors are basically "sound transparent." How can I fix this?

Living with these 3-panel sliders is driving me crazy. As you can see in the pictures, the gaps are huge. It feels like I'm living in a studio apartment even when they're closed.

I'm renting, so I can't replace the whole unit. Has anyone successfully dampened the noise on these? Is heavy soundproof curtains the only way, or is there a way to seal the gaps effectively while still being able to slide them open?

Any advice is appreciated!
