I am currently finishing my freshman year at a college in Maryland, and heading to bootcamp this summer for the National Guard. I am looking for a car that can get me from my home in Oklahoma to Maryland once or twice a year and to drill once a month (maybe 40 min to 1 hr drive) reliably. I currently am looking on FB marketplace and have found a VW beetle very similar to my first car that got totaled after a crash. My friends have all said that a VW car is unreliable and I need a new japanese branded car, but I simply cant afford anything made after 2016. Is a 50,000 mile VW bug a good car? or should I switch my search to maybe an old toyota or honda? For context the VW bug is a 2004 convertible beetle with a rebuilt title. The interior is lacking but can be fixed with some love. I care mostly about being in a smaller car that has decent milage.
