UTI in cats

He is a 1-year-old neutered cat. I took him to the vet 3 days ago after noticing that he kept going to the litter box, digging, and being unable to urinate. The vet said he might have a UTI, but no blood work was done. She did an ultrasound sound, nothing is wrong no blockage and his bladder is normal. She gave him 3 injections and told me to continue bringing him in for treatment for 3–5 days. She also recommended Royal Canin S/O food, but it wasn’t even available at her clinic and was difficult to find elsewhere. When I finally found it, I couldn’t afford it because it was too expensive. When i told her that today she said there are no other options, and I don’t know what to do. What could happen if I don’t get the food? He is healthy and active.
