I have a territorial cat and need some advice. My flatmate abruptly left, I can cover the full rent for a couple of months but I’ll eventually need a new flatmate.

The apartment is old but very homey and sunny, with a big balcony. It’s in a quiet area in PSC, a 7-minute walk from the green line. The room would be fully furnished and the price would be around 835 CAD/month (including heating, water, high-speed internet, and weekly cleaning of the common spaces). I’m also pretty quiet and easy to live with, as I spend a lot of time working and studying in my room, though I do like having people over once or twice a month.

The problem is my cat. He’s very anxious with new people and will hiss and act aggressive at first. When guests stay over, he usually starts calming down after 2-3 days, but the beginning is difficult. The rest of the time, he’s actually pretty easy to live with; he doesn’t break things, doesn’t wake us up at night. The main challenge is introductions with new people.

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s realistic to find a flatmate under these conditions. Should instead look for something smaller and cheaper, and possibly transfer or assign my lease? Any honest advice would help, thanks!
