12 days in Kyrguizstan. Advice please!
Hi everyone!
I'm going to Kyrgyzstan in July for 12 days and I need a bit of advice.
For a bit of context, I'm a female solo traveller.
I want to go to 3 places: Sary Chelek, Ala Kol and Kel Suu.
I want to do a mixture of hikes and horse treks.
I've seen a lot of people say that it's easier and cheaper to organise things once you're there. How true is that?
I fear there won't be availability for the days I'm in each place and that I'll have to miss one of the 3. I really want to go to Sary Chelek and do a horse trek there. My battle is choosing between Ala Kol and Kel Suu.
I'm panicking that 12 days won't be enough time to go to all 3 places as the distances are very big and transport is not easy if you're not going/coming from Bishkek. I won't be hiring a car so I'll be relying on marshrutkas and Yandex. I'm accounting for at least 1 day to get places. What's everyone's experience with transport? I don't think I'd be brave enough for hitchhiking on my own.
Ala Kol and Altyn-Arashan
How many days would you recommend for Ala Kol hiking? I've hiked in Europe before, including in the Alps and I'm used to several days' hikes. My plan would be to stay in yurts along the way. Does anyone have any recommendations in terms of routes and yurts? Is it easy to do without a guide? I would be staying in yurts.
Kel Suu
What is the best way to do Kel Suu? I've seen 4x4 tours, hikes and horse treks. How many days would you recommend? If hiking, does anyone have any recommendations in terms of routes and yurts? Is it easy to do without a guide?
If you had to choose, would you go for Ala Kol and Altyn-Arashan or Kel Suu?
Other
Does anyone know if you can leave your luggage in guest houses and yurts while on hikes/treks? I'd like to bring a smaller bag for the hiking days to carry less weight and only what is needed instead of the whole 12 day backpack.
In terms of connectivity, I know not to expect to have Wi-Fi in remote areas, which is fair. However, do yurts have electricity to charge phones? What kind of sockets are there in Kyrgyzstan? Any SIM card recommendations?
Where's best to get cash? I've seen most places will only accept cash. Is it better to exchange currency once in Kyrgyzstan or to bring it from home?
Are supermarkets a thing in smaller tows/cities? How easy is it to just go to the shops to save money in food?
Anything that you would 100% recommend? like water filters, altitude sickness meds, electrolytes,
Anything that you regret bringing? Anything that you thought you needed and was a waste of space?
Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance :)
