How do some fresh grads can afford to travel?

I’ve seen some of my uni mates travelling right after graduating. Some of them, especially Chinese (from my observation), seem able to afford staying in Europe or the US for months, not just a 1–2 week holiday.

I’m genuinely curious. Are most of them supported by their parents? Working remote jobs? Doing internships abroad? Or is there something else that makes it possible?

Should i stay or leave?

I think my manager is either worried i will leave or wants me to leave.

I do a research based job which requires a postgraduate degree. However i managed to land the job with a degree and have been getting fairly good comments on performance. However, recently my manager asked me “why do you think fresh grads leave after staying in a job for 2-3 years?”, then today when i told that i am applying leave, he asked “is it because you want to interview for a new job?” then proceeded to say that he was joking.

For more context, the cons that I have is that i do not speak mandarin which is helpful to communicate with HQ, another issue is not having a postgraduate degree.

Otherwise, i am really interested in research and like what im doing. I’ve heard from other colleagues that he have had bad experience with another employee who left for further studies which i think might make him think that training me would be a waste if im gonna leave anyways, so he is trying to know if im gonna leave or stay, or he clearly wants me to leave.

However, wanting me to leave sounds strange when he always talks to me about sending me for training and even talks of business trip opportunities. And my boss has actively reminded me that they are willing to train employees and that they expect them to stay for 5-10 years. However, he is also aware that i might be interested to pursue further studies which i have clarified during the interview itself. So, what is he probably thinking asking me these?
