Trying to get ahead with fathers day as I find my partner impossible to buy for.

What do you buy for a man who hates filler/generic junk and only likes to receive practical/useful stuff? The usual suggestions from all the lists would go down like a lead balloon - mugs, drawings, personalised books, etc. are all out. I've thought about a wallet, however he is very particular about size and number of compartments, and there's technically nothing wrong with his current one, although it does look a bit beaten up.

He's an engineer and does like a good tool, but he's pretty well set up for most things at the minute - at Christmas, he said there aren't any more that he would need for now. He's a fisherman and a gamer, but again, he's pretty well set up for both of those. He's not into sport of any kind, not bothered about books or TV. He takes a passing interest in cars, but only in that he likes tinkering with ours. Does like good food, he's not particularly bothered about anything like an experience day.

I would like to give him something that can be useful but that can potentially also have a personalised element, as it will be his first fathers day since our daughter was born, however I realise the personal element may be asking too much.
