Joust + Rampage Deluxe cabinet leaked... find out the details Thursday night

Joust + Rampage Deluxe cabinet leaked... find out the details Thursday night

For anyone who hasn't seen it already, the product we had intended to reveal on 5/14 has been leaked online. The product in question is a Joust + Rampage Deluxe (17" monitor) Arcade1Up cabinet with swappable design elements (to make it look like more of one design or the other), and there are lots of photos and a product listing floating around.

BUT...

The leaks can only tell you what's in the product listing. And there's a lot more to learn about this one. Fortunately, we have those details, and we plan to cover them in our Thursday night episode of The Arcade Insiders. These topics include:

  • What does it look like in real life? (we'll show you a built sample!)
  • What is the actual price going to be, and where is the best play to buy it?
  • Is the monitor one of the good ones, or is the older type?
  • What pieces are swappable, and how hard is it to do that?
  • Is this product indicative of what Basic Fun will be doing moving forward?
  • Why didn't they just release Tapper (or something else)?
  • What does Rampage's original designer think of a product like this? (We'll be answering that one with our special guest, International Video Game Hall of Fame member Brian Colin! He's well known for his work on projects including Rampage, Xenophobe, Arch Rivals, and dozens nore. He'll be joining us live to give us his thoughts and tell us what else he has in the works!)

Join us tomorrow night, Thursday, 5/14 at 8:00 Eastern and drop your thoughts and questions in the chat!

Product reveal this Thursday, 5/14 @ 8:00 Eastern

Consider this a PSA that we'll be doing an Arcade1Up product reveal this Thursday, 8:00 Eastern on The Arcade Insiders.

There's been a lot of speculation about what's being shown, and I'll just leave a few clues and/or points of clarification:

  • No, it will be not be a Supreme/XL (it is a Deluxe)
  • No, it will not be a "slim-cady"
  • No, it is not Mortal Kombat
  • Yes, there is a unique element never-before-seen in an A1U product
  • Yes, we plan to have a special guest who has something to do with the product in question

Feel free to speculate or, better yet, join us Thursday to see what it is (and whether or not it's anything that piques your interest). See you then!

It's been nearly a year-and-a-half since we first heard about the Iconic Arcade Street Fighter cabinets, and a lot has happened along the way... legal challenges, tariffs, supply-chain issues, quality improvements, and shipping delays (to name a few). And all of that has given armchair quarterbacks LOTS of time — and ammunition — to sow doubt and raise concerns about the company and it's future product.

But the day has finally come.

The preorders have been fulfilled, the boxes have been opened, the cabinets have been assembled, and the proud posts have been shared.

So, now it's time to put the past year+ of rumors and speculation behind us and finally hear from the folks who actually put their own money (and their patience) on the line. Now it's time to hear from the owners.

Join us Thursday night at 8:00 EDT to hear from people with firsthand experience... what did Iconic get right? What did they get wrong? What should they improve? And where should they go next?

As some of you in the Arcade1Up community know, I like adding subwoofers to all of my builds. Full speaker replacements are almost never necessary, and that's especially the case with the larger speakers and seemingly more powerful amplifier in use in these new Iconic Arcade units.

So, is it possible to just add a powered subwoofer to the Iconic Arcade Street Fighter cabinets? YES! And it's simple. Here's what you need:

All you need to do is install a y-splitter to the 3.5mm audio cable that runs between the monitor and the control deck. Then hook up an RCA pactch cable between the open lead off the splitter and the subwoofer. Get yourself a subwoofer with an auto on/off and route the power cord through the back panel of your Iconic cabinet (I drilled a small hole). You'll need a spare power outlet available to plug into, since the subwoofer can't run off of the Iconic's electronics for power.

Once you have it hooked up, just adjust the crossover and output level to your personal taste. The Iconic cabinet will tend to amplify the subwoofer's own output, so it'll take very, very little power to get a big kick (I had to turn mine down to about 3/10 and go no further than about halfway with the crossover). The bass output will scale with the built-in volume control, so this is a "set it and forget it" mod that won't require any further fiddling once setup.

UPDATE! Turns out this method of adding a subwoofer (which works for 95% of Arcade1Up cabinets) does NOT work in the expected way this this Iconic Arcade cabinet. I didn't discover this right away, but apparently the audio lead that runs from the monitor to the control panel sends a fixed-level signal, so splitting the signal here only leads to a fixed level of bass volume. In order to get volume that changes as you increase or decrease volume levels, you would need to splice into the speaker-level wiring going from the control deck to the speakers themselves and route that into your subwoofer. This is certainly feasible, and not even all that hard, but it DOES require a subwoofer with high-level inputs and outputs (such as the one linked above), and it would require some minor cutting and splicing of existing wiring. Pig-tail connectors might also be available to avoid any cutting, but I haven't looked into it yet.

Apologies for any confusion. These Iconic cabs continue to surprise!

In case you missed the announcement last night, Basic Fun is partnering with Spreetail so you can now purcase Arcade1Up cabinets directly from the brand. That means you can skip the middle man and get it right from the source, with fast shipping via Spreetail (yes, Spreetail has infamously had some trouble with preorders, but in-stock items like these have been known to ship stupid-fast). Shop the lineup here:
