Great watch, boring faces

Finally got the Apple Watch 10 after years of putting it off.

Hardware is great, watch faces not so much. Tried a ton of different setups and always end up in the same place. The “rate my watch face” posts here don’t help either, always the same basic suggestions.

I know some apps already, just looking for something new and fun. What do you guys recommend?

Apple gave us a Ferrari and locked the engine. The Series 10 is incredible hardware trapped in boring software. Change my mind.

I finally caved and bought the Apple Watch 10 after years of resistance and now I’m hitting a wall. Help me break it.

For the longest time, I couldn’t justify it. Fast battery drain, a screen that never fully sold me, and watches that looked like they’d shatter if you breathed wrong. Meanwhile, I watched the competition, Huawei, Samsung, the whole crew, making bold, dramatic leaps while Apple played it safe with subtle, incremental updates year after year.

Then the Apple Watch Series 10 dropped. Something clicked. I pulled the trigger.

And honestly? Hardware-wise, I don’t regret it. But here’s where it gets frustrating:

The watch faces. Are. Stale.

I’ve spent months cycling through every configuration I can think of and I keep hitting the same ceiling. The same widgets, the same layouts, the same information I could just… look at on my phone. Apple built an incredible canvas and then handed us kindergarten crayons to paint with.

And the worst part? It happens here on Reddit too. I scroll through “rate my watch face” posts constantly and it’s always the same story, someone shares their setup, everyone says it’s basic, and when people suggest alternatives… they’re just as basic. It’s an endless cycle of well-meaning mediocrity.

I know a few apps already, I’m not coming in blind. But I’m tired of the same recommendations. I want to find something new. Something that actually surprises me.

I’m a data guy. I want my watch face working hard, metrics, stats, useful glanceable info front and center. Not decorations. Not a pretty clock. Actual utility.

So I come to you:

👉 What apps are giving you genuinely useful watch face widgets? Complications that go beyond the basics, health data, productivity, anything that makes you feel like your wrist is actually earning its keep.

And while we’re at it, is Apple falling behind on this? Because from where I’m standing, the software creativity just isn’t keeping up with the hardware potential. The Series 10 deserves better than what watchOS is giving us.

Drop your setups, your app recommendations, your hot takes, but please, nothing that’s already on the first page of Google. I need real options.
