Story of the inspiration and creation of my video haiku : As I enter the 4th year of figuring out my medical mystery with little to no help from the medical industry, I've been able to get out for walks in nature again. I was out on Halloween of 2025 and listening to music from Ghost of Tsushima. I always loved the composing the Haiku part of the game, where you stop to reflect on the beauty of the world despite the horrors of the ongoing invasion. The stark contrast was really moving. It inspired me to really sit and enjoy the beauty and wonder of nature in one of my favorite spots in this park, despite the raging battle for my health I had suddenly found myself in that started in early 2023, when my body shut down unexpectedly. For my meditation that day at the park, I decided to compose a non-traditional Haiku. Afterwards, I took out my phone and filmed around the spot at the waterfall where I usually stop to rest/meditate. To pay homage to the game I decided to also express it in Japanese, while using English subtitles to get the feeling/concept across in multiple ways.
水はゆく
石をよけつつ
前へゆく
Water flows freely
Around every obstacle
Continues forward
While not a word for word translation, I aimed to capture the meaning in different ways in order to keep both the English and Japanese to the 5,7,5 format of Haiku (though GoT is actually done in Tanka style [5 lines with 5,7,5,7,7 syllables]. I feel that in a way I have been like the water here, though I may have been down to a trickle heath-wise, I have remained dedicated to healing myself and continued to move forward no matter how hard things have gotten. My Springtime is coming.
