960: Battery life and returning to base

I've got a 960 which works well. Purchased in Nov 2019.

The whole house is hardwood floors, so I'd say it's an easy job for the drive motors to zip around.

In June 2022, it started running out of power before it could make it to home base, so I replaced it with a 3850mAh unit "good for 1000 cycles."

It's starting to do the same thing again - and according to the history, the unit itself hasn't even run 1000 times since 2019. And of course it always dies under the bed or sofa. Never in the middle of the room.

Questions:

Is there a favorite replacement battery these days?

Why isn't it returning home when the battery shows a certain percent left? When I come home and find it, there's no indication that it was on its way home and conked out.
