A magic system based on persuasion and the language of nature

I’m working on a magic system where magic has its own language, often referred to as the language of nature.

In different cultures, this language is understood in different ways, but the core idea remains the same: everything that exists has a nature, and that nature can be addressed.

Magic isn’t about forcing control. It’s about speaking in that language and convincing what you’re addressing to follow your will.

This applies not only to natural elements, but also — at more advanced levels — to objects and constructs made from those elements.

So mastery comes in two parts:

  • understanding and learning the language itself
  • and developing the ability to be truly persuasive within it

The more convincing you are, the stronger and more stable the effect becomes.

I like the idea that magic here feels less like domination, and more like negotiation.

I’m still exploring the limits of it though.

What kind of weaknesses or boundaries would you expect from a system like this?

I'm building a culture based on silence

Hello everyone, I've been working on the early people of my fantasy world, and these are my first ideas of one of the people/culture

These people lived in a time where making noise meant death

A group of people called the People from Beyond the Iceberg, who lived in the far north of my world, Ayurve. A frozen peninsula where winter once never ended.

In their early history, survival was nearly impossible. Massive creatures roamed the land, and even the smallest sound could reveal a human’s location.

Because of this, they adapted.

Over generations, silence became the foundation of their entire society:

  • communication through gestures and carved symbols
  • leaders chosen for their ability to observe and listen; most often, the eldest would lead, as age meant survival
  • severe punishments for unnecessary noise
  • group survival prioritized above the individual
  • everything was permitted in order to survive

Even after they overcame these creatures and began to settle in early cities across the northern lands of the Iceberg, this silent way of life remained.

Silence was no longer just survival, it became identity.

What else would you do about this culture? What would you make it different?

If there's any questions, feel free to ask! It can only develop with different perspectives!
