To start i haven't finished the book yet, currently at the part where they just escaped with telsin and allick. However, during that whole escapade on the ship, 2 things struck me as POSSIBLE references to other authors.

irich's introduction reminded me alot of joe abercrombie's Glokta especially the distinct "click, tap, drag" sequence about how they get around despite their ailments
allick's expressions about exposed faces being barbaric and obscene immediately reminded me of patrick rothfuss's adem culture who believe open emotion/expressions are uncivilized

Again, not stating these as true, more wondering if anyone else catches small things like these that could be references to what authors inspire his work
