Trouble Sourcing Outward Swing Front Door
My girlfriend and I have purchased an old converted schoolhouse in the Orangeville/Shelburne region of Ontario as our new home and we need to replace the old front door. Normally we would just need a standard inward swing on a home where winter snow is a concern but as it used to be a schoolhouse and there are stairs and a landing just inside the entrance, we are forced to stick with the outward swing. There is a small vestibule to help guard against the snow and in the future we plan to add an additional external door on it but for now, one thing at a time. We're ready and able to do the work necessary but we are finding it difficult to source a left handed outswing external door that doesn't look like it's for a garage and doesn't use up all of our budget. We briefly toyed with the idea of reversing an inswing door but research confirmed that although technically possible, for the amount of work, security, and impact on weather proofing, etc. it wouldn't be practical. I'm hoping that someone might have some suggestions or potential leads on where we could find one. The standard big box outlets have minimal, if any, options available that we've found. It's a bit dark on the inside landing so we are hoping to source something simple in a shaker style with at least 1/4 lite, but preferably 1/2 to 3/4.
