I had both torsion springs replaced recently after one of the springs broke.
When the original spring broke the technician measured the spring and ordered two new springs. The new springs were color coded Brown.
After the technician installed the new springs the garage door would not close completely. There was a gap of about 6 inches between the floor and the door bottom. He made some adjustments to the springs but couldn't get the door properly balanced - the door was either not fully closed or not fully opened.
He found another spring in his truck which was color coded Red. He said that the Red spring is smaller and not as strong as the Brown one. He replaced one of the Brown springs with the Red spring and made some adjustments. The door seems to be balanced now.
Question: Does having mismatched torsion springs (one Red and the other Brown) cause problems in the future?
