What is wrong with my mature Ginkgo? Bark is chipping off
I have a wonderful mature ginkgo tree that has a problem with its bark. It is chipping off and appears to have fungus growing under the bark. One branch (photo 3) has damage from long ago that has been exacerbated by whatever else is going on. Photo 4 shows the backside of the bark. The tree just leafed out and the canopy looks normal. No other signs of distress.
I plan to have it looked at in person but I’m curious what I might be dealing with.
