Fledgling owls. Worried about cats getting them. Not sure what to do.

My cat's roam the back yard only but as of yesterday the first owl has moved to a tree just outside the fence. Newer smaller one was found today in the front yard. This smaller one was making alot of noise and out in the open. I tried a set of boxes one inside the other to make a good owl house on the ground but its just sleeping in the open. Worried about predatory bird and cats getting them . Called asheville animal control but they just transferred me to wildlife that was closed. Mom is definitely watching from the trees and looked like she brought a mouse to the little one in the front. I know not to do anything but keep my distance but it would break my heart to find one slain by a cat. Let nature take it course or what???
