I buddy gave me his SE as he can't stop it from clogging.

I have been trying to reset it up and it seems that the touch sensor is not feeling the bed.
I turn it one - choose English - it homes - the hot end comes down and slams into the bed. bed tries to move the hot end doesn't lift.

I know its needs a new hot end - that is ordered - but what is the fix for the slamming?
