Solo Vespa camping trip from Texas to Maryland. Crazy or not so crazy?
Hi, I was planning on taking a solo camping trip from Fort Worth, TX to Maryland this summer on my 150cc (65mph) Vespa.
My plan was to take the trip over the span of 8 days. Travel day, camp day, travel, camp, etc. I would be taking backroads, no highways, the entire trip and splitting the drive into around 7-hour sections with two sleeps and one full day in between each drive. Along with normal camping supplies, I would also be taking battery packs, a solar panel, dehydrated meals, and a miniature air compressor.
Most of my friends and family are saying things like this is crazy, no one does this, and are urging me not to go. Some of their concerns are: Some of the high, more twisty mountain roads, road work or other such obstacles diverting me from my path with my phone possibly not having service to reroute me, being routed through people’s properties that may have signs such as “no trespassing, trespassers will be shot”/backroads being unsafe, and above all, the fact that I’d be completely alone with no help the whole time. I completely understand their concerns, especially with this being my first solo trip, but I also wanted to get the opinion of people who have experience with this before to help better inform my decision.
This kind of crazy, unforgettable experience is exactly what I’ve always wanted to do and I feel like if I don’t just say why not and do it, then it’s never going to happen. However, I know I still need to be safe and logical, so any thoughts are welcome, and if you think of any additional obstacles I might encounter along this journey, please let me know.
Thanks!
