I take my two-year-old son to the gym with me regularly. Today, I briefly stepped into the women’s locker room with him, just long enough (about 30 seconds) to drop off my bag. While I was in there, another woman confronted me and said I shouldn’t bring him into the women’s locker room and should use the family locker room instead.
I’m aware that family locker rooms are available, and I do use them when I need to change him or when we’re at the pool. I think what caught me off guard was the intensity of her reaction, he’s only two, and it made me feel like I had done something seriously inappropriate. I’ve always assumed there would be an age where this would no longer be acceptable, but I didn’t think we were there yet. Now I’m wondering if gyms generally have a strict policy about this, or if it just depends on the situation.
Edit: I did not know this could be against gym policy.
