[GB] Lost £5,835 in Task-Based Scam via Revolut – Please Be Careful!
I want to share my experience to raise awareness and hopefully prevent others from going through the same thing.
I lost £5,835.37 through a task-based job scam. I was contacted via messaging apps and offered a work-from-home job where I could earn commission for completing online “tasks.” At first, small withdrawals were allowed, which made it seem legitimate. Later, I was asked to make larger payments to unlock tasks and clear a “negative balance.”
I made multiple payments under pressure from the scammer and ended up losing a significant amount of money.
I reported the scam to Revolut, Action Fraud, and the Financial Ombudsman Service, but unfortunately, the money could not be recovered. Revolut did flag some transactions and provide warnings, but I was still able to proceed with repeated payments.
Key lessons / warnings:
- No legitimate job will ask you to send money first
- “Task-based jobs” with commissions are often scams
- “Negative balance” is a major red flag
- Scammers may pressure you and coach you on what to say
Please be careful and verify any online opportunity before sending money. Sharing this so others don’t fall victim.
