Update of the video player as well as the audio and subtitle options on the global Disney+ platform

Today, Disney+ rolled out an update to the video player as well as the audio and subtitle options on its global platform.

The audio and subtitle menu is now located in the bottom-right corner. The large selection window has also been replaced with a smaller one that requires scrolling through the available options.

I also feel like switching between audio tracks is noticeably faster now.

There are three things I noticed where I’d still like to see some improvements/additions:

  • The audio menu still doesn’t indicate which track is the original language/audio.
  • I would swap the positions of the audio and subtitle options. Since the third menu is for subtitle settings, the order should be: Audio → Subtitles → Subtitle Settings.
  • In the German UI, the language is initially displayed in English (for example, “German”). Only after clicking the individual options does it correctly switch to “Deutsch.” That seems like a bug that will hopefully be fixed soon.

What’s your opinion on the update?

Thai, Indonesian & Malay Audio Tracks Are Starting to Appear on Global Disney+

It appears that Disney+ in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia may soon be integrated into the main global Disney+ platform.

Over the past few days, Thai, Indonesian, and Malay dubbing/subtitle tracks have started appearing on selected movies and episodes. So far, however, I haven’t seen any Thai subtitle option yet. The rollout of these additional language options will likely continue gradually over the coming weeks.

Here are some examples where these language tracks are already available:

Series

  • Agatha All Along (Thai)
  • Andor (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • A Shop for Killers (Thai)
  • Big Mouth (Thai)
  • High Potential (Thai)
  • Percy Jackson and the Olympians (Thai)
  • Phineas and Ferb (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Pupstruction (Malay)
  • RoboGobo (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Scrubs (Thai)
  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • The Book of Boba Fett (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • The Owl House (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Quack Pack (Thai, Indonesian)

Movies

  • 101 Dalmatians (1996) (Thai)
  • Avalon High (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Cinderella (1950) (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Disenchanted (Thai)
  • Freaky Friday (2003) (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Hannah Montana: The Movie (Indonesian)
  • Hocus Pocus 2 (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • LEGO Disney Princess: Villains Unite (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Mary Poppins (Indonesian)
  • Peter Pan (1953) (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • Pinocchio (1940) (Thai)
  • Pretty Woman (Thai, Indonesian)
  • Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (Thai)
  • Sister Act (Thai)
  • Sneakerella (Thai, Indonesian, Malay)
  • TRON: Ares (Thai)

The big question now is when exactly this transition will officially happen.

Allowing these regions to run through the main Disney+ platform is long overdue in my opinion. Hopefully the Philippines, Africa, and the Middle East will eventually follow as well. Consolidating everything into the global platform would remove a lot of unnecessary duplicate infrastructure and streamline the service considerably.

P.S. One interesting detail: in the mobile app, “Bahasa Indonesia” is simply labeled as “Indonesian,” unlike on desktop. Meanwhile, “Bahasa Melayu” appears to be labeled consistently across all platforms.
