Bookend Song Opening Riff (Day 17)
Yay, I finally got the final two measures right!
Yay, I finally got the final two measures right!
This one is much slower, as to keep focusing on the intonation. You'll notice I really tripped up with the final two measures, keep forgetting there's no sharp/flat between B and C. Honestly hate playing this slow lol, but it's important, as my teacher always reminds me.
Awkwardly delivered, but I think this is the closest I've gotten intonation wise
I took u/Amazing-Eggplant-895 advice and focused on the intonation today, playing with a Pitch Detector (which I probably should've been doing at the start lol). I'm getting better and landing those G and C Sharps on the G string, now I just need to get used to the F and G naturals on the E string at the end.
Had to practice with a mute today because family had guest over. Decided to practice on string crossing speed today rather than intonation, and I feel like I can get it down easier than the intonation, the quarter note duration feels a bit tricky though.
This one is alright, best of the batch I made practicing it, just need to get the timing of crossing the strings down. Getting more comfortable practicing without a mute
Inb4 "what about the cerulean engines?" if the captain's dialgue to Alisaie is anything to go by, those were a secret and they didn't use them, at least maybe until they were past the Siren dungeon, but even then that's still a shit ton of time sailing by the wind.
It's also funny looking back Yugiri and Gosetsu's journey's to Eorzea's with the time bubble in mind. In Yugiri's case, she says her passengers are basically on death's door and are in desperate need of aid and supplies, which only makes sense if they've been a sea for months. Meanwhile, Gosetsu rowed his ass to Ul'dah from somewhere to the East, which of course he could survive regardless of the time because he's just that guy!
After a few frustrating attempts, I got this one. I think I prefer the way it sounds without the mute, and will probably be keeping it off from now on. Also, in a previous attempt, rather than confront my discomfort with G and C sharp, I thought I could just make them naturals instead, spoiler alert, it sounded like shit, even compared to this.
It's only now that I realize my bow sliding all over the place as I play, which, to be fair, is something I'm actively working on in general, but here I was thinking I could get this done in another week or so thinking all that was left was intonation. Who knows, maybe I still can, but it just goes to show that creating music, or any art in general, is an uphill battle.
Flopped on the ending, but that's ok, I'm still getting better
Wasn't feeling well today, but still wanted to get some practice in. Hopefully it sounds better than yesterday
Yeah, this one is rough, and it wasn't even my first attempt. In my defense, it was after violin practice and I was tired, but still.
The meat of the issue is now I've moved onto intonation, and the piece (which I'll post in the comments) is in A Major, meaning the Fs, Cs, and Gs are all sharp. Fs and C aren't too bad...at least when they aren't on the G string, I'm incredibly unfamiliar with C# on the G String. Speaking of the G String, that G is now also sharp, which I've never done before so now the piece sounds super weird to me.
Still wanted to post this anyway, because sharing failures and short comings is important to growth and making music and all that, plus I hope maybe all this is inspiring people to try out the riff for themselves
I think I've gotten the string crossings down! Now comes the part I've dreaded, intonation lol.
