$2,400 water bill !
Just got a $2,400 water bill and I’m freaking out. The bill says we used 202,000 gallons in 28 days. Our normal usage is usually around 2k–4k gallons a month.
We live in a tiny condo that’s around 800 square feet with:
- 1 full bathroom
- 1 half bathroom
- no pool
- no irrigation system
I checked:
- toilets are not running
- no visible leaks
- no soaked walls
- no flooding
- no obvious water sounds
We even walked around outside and didn’t see anything crazy. The utility bill says the huge charge is mostly sewer/sanitation based on the water usage.
Has anyone else had something this extreme happen in a small condo or townhouse? Did it end up being:
- a hidden underground leak?
- meter issue?
- wrong meter?
- shared plumbing issue?
I’m planning to check the meter in daylight and call the utility Monday, but I honestly cannot understand how 202,000 gallons could happen without obvious signs.
