De-Orbit this asteroid using the lightest craft, win $15 via Cash App

I’ve been weirdly into asteroids lately. Anyway…

The user who successfully de-orbits this craft using the lightest craft before the submission period end will win $15 USD sent by Cash App.

Submission method: reply with a comment or DM containing a link. Youtube or reddit videos are preferred; if you use other sites, just please make sure they’re not sketchy af.

Submission period ends 12:00am EDT on May 16, 2026

RULES AND STIPULATIONS

  1. Hard mode only, no cheats. (Infinite Build Area and Part Clipping are okay.)
  2. Submissions must be an unclipped screen recording, beginning at the main menu screen and ending when the craft burns up and/or crashes into earth. Make sure we see your vehicle’s mass in the VAB.

Screen recording length is typically limited by storage, so I recommend disabling audio in the screen recording settings.

  1. Using bugs/exploits that go against the spirit of the challenge will disqualify you.

  2. You cannot use fuel from the asteroid (it’s made of fuel tanks).

  3. No mods or BP editing.

  4. The asteroid must be teleported into Earth orbit at 120,000 kilometers. Be sure to record this.

  5. EDIT 5/13 12:13pm— I don’t think adding this rule is necessary, but you never know 😭 you must take off from earth.

  6. EDIT 5/13 3:48pm— You cannot damage the asteroid. (Except via reentry). This could muddy the waters regarding the definition of “de-orbit this asteroid.”

I will probably name the winner sometime this weekend or early next week. I’ll DM you if you win.

Please Note:

If you do not have Cash App or are otherwise unable to receive funds, you will still be named winner, but the runner-up will get the money.

I’ve always wished you could de-orbit the asteroid, so I took matters into my own hands

Weighing just over 3.75 million tons, this “asteroid” has a comparable mass to those similar in size to the asteroid in-game. This is much smaller though , because a 100m radius craft would be rather tedious to build. You’re welcome to try yourself.

Do you think it’s even possible to de-orbit?

BP here

EDIT: I made it to scale! It’s now as large as the asteroid, weighing 1.4 million tons. It’s not as detailed, though.

Last time I tried to hit something with a missile, things didn’t go so well. I also got a few comments telling me I should have done it with drag on. Well, this time, I am using absolutely zero cheats except for infinite fuel… and I hit it slow enough that it didn’t just phase right through!
