I am in northeast Iowa on well water. About 25 feet from my current well I have this pad with a 3 1/2" OD steel pipe. About 1 inch below the dirt is some form of concrete/mortar. I guess my question is, is this is an old, capped well and not a flag pole or something else? The house was built in 1977 so the well has to have been drilled sometime around then.
I have been unable to find any information about my current well (age, depth, etc). There are no county or state records, and none of the local drillers have any sort of records that go back that far. My new well is located about 2 feet from a basement wall of the addition that was put on my house in 1998, which means the original well was only in service for 20 years(or less)? Is that a normal lifespan?
