In a one-shot I’m going to run for six players, the players have the opportunity to find a laboratory of sorts that includes a vat of souls. A demon has been able to extract these from the River Styx in Avernus and likes to drink from them, almost like his own twisted wine cellar room.
What should happen to the players if they choose to drink from his chalice of souls? I picture it as a very chaotic boon - both a large benefit and cost. This is right before the end boss fight, where they might side with either the same demon or a devil, and fight the latter.
This also has no chance of being a further campaign, so there’s no worries there with players becoming unbalanced moving forward.
