Context: using FanFicFare plugin, I updated a bulk selection of epub but I used the "Background Metadata" option for the first time.

When the job was finished, I tried sending these updated files to my device and immediately-

"Error Communicating with Device"

I tested:

  1. Sending an epub file (brand new, freshly bought "Song of Achilles"(I've been meaning to get it)) from calibre to device. Success!

  2. Sending an epub fanfic file (brand new fanfic download using the plugin) from calibre to device. Success!

  3. Changing the book cover of one of my older fanfic epubs, sending 'updated' fanfic through calibre to device. Success!

Any fanfic document from the initial bulk selection I updated with the "Background Metadata" option gets error message. I even tried to do it manually, opening the epub file location and trying to send it directly to device, calibre excluded from the conversation. PC yelled at me for trying to get in between the impending divorce.

My theory is that background metadata don't match, therefore can't replace. the sort of "You already have a file name 'Fanfic' you need to rename new file"

Is there any way I can heal this miscommunication between my calibre library and device? Or will I have to go full lobotomy, rip out all the metadata on both device and calibre, redownload all my files, and pray that the amnesia holds?

Or is there an easier way to recall old metadata files? IDK, please send para-rescue and perhaps the military at this point.
