Outbid or was I?

I put on offer in on a property. It was well below the asking price, but the house had been on the market for a long time, with many reductions in asking price.

I was told that my offer was accepted. Appearantly, there was a competing offer, which I narrowly beat. Then, later that day, the EA told me that the other party had increased their offer, and now the seller is going with them. I was not even asked if I would like to up my offer.

Now I see a couple of days later that the house is still on sale. Maybe that is a lag on the system. However, I smell a rat. Any idea what could be going on? Why not ask whether I would like to up the offer?

My employer closed our office recently in England. We had a consultation period, and the employer concluded to close the office. The reason was under utilisation of office facilities. I requested that an office is continued to be provided after the consultation period. I have worked permanently there for 5 years. My contract is full-time from that office with no mobility clause.

We now have a choice to work remotely from home or another office 70 miles away. Working from home really does not work for me.

Do I have a case to refuse either option and request redundancy?
