Dog ate something he shouldn't have, today. Not his first time. Won't be his last time. 🙄😒 But it got me thinking about the process for Animal Poison Control, at least at the last few vets I've taken my beasts to.
Dog eats something I know is bad for them. By the time I realize, its been 20 to 40 min. I call (or rush him to) the emergency vet, who won't see him until I've called Animal Poison Control."
It costs $85.00 on my credit card to even be put through to Animal Poison Control.
Once you navigate the fee, you get put on hold for an agent. I've never waited less than 35 min. That's now at least an hour since he ate and started metabolising the toxin. Every minute counts. In some cases, I hung up before speaking to someone because I *had* to find someone who would help, NOW.
There has to be a way get a poisoned animal in front of a vet NOW, instead of waiting three times longer to get, and pay for! Poison Control's opinion.
On a small animal, that kind of wait time is a death sentence. Who is this serving?
Birdie is outraged that her Yeti is *empty*, already! Someone take her to Starbucks immediately, please.
Birdie is a mixed breed - part baked potato and part hot-fudge sundae. She *must* keep her whipped cream levels stable.
