NY Life sent a tax document with my SSN to the wrong address and now says they can’t find it.
This has been sitting with me for a week now and… I just let it go. I don’t know if this is the right place to post it, but if it’s not, let me know where I should.
I got a letter saying that back in October 2025, New York Life Group Benefit Solutions sent out a tax document with my full Social Security number on it to the wrong address.
And not only that… they said they can’t find it and don’t know where it went.
I didn’t even find out until like late April 2026 when they finally decided to tell me.
So basically for 6 months my SSN was just… out there somewhere?? And they have no idea where?? And they didn’t think I should know until 6 MONTHS LATER???
That alone is freaking me out, but what keeps making it harder is how bad my experience with them already was.
They were constantly saying they didn’t get paperwork from my doctors when my doctors said they sent it. I’d call and get one answer, call again and get something totally different. My benefits got stopped and restarted multiple times. It felt like nobody there knew what was going on.
So now I’m sitting here like… this can’t be the only time something like this has happened, right?
Also this part doesn’t make sense to me at all:
– why are they sending tax documents in October?
– who was it even going to??
– if it was mine, why didn’t they resend it?
– did they just lose it and move on??
And then they offered credit monitoring through Equifax which… is, I guess ironic that they breached my data and to make up for it… they offer me a year of free credit monitoring by a company that had the biggest data breach ever.
I’m not trying to go nuclear here, I just genuinely want to know:
has anyone else had issues with this company sending stuff to the wrong address or “losing” documents?
Especially anything with personal info.
Because at this point I don’t know if I just got insanely unlucky or if this is actually a pattern with them.
