Hi

I am a passionate youth player (13 y.o.) with a national rating of around 1800, and national rapid 2000.

I've been playing the simple Caro-kann basically when I started playing in tournaments OTB (which was in late 2023, were I could already play some chess but was intermediate),
But I've bin thinking about switching to Sicilian Defense against e4.

It's not that I don't enjoy or get cramped positions, or don't like the Caro kann, but I think the caro-kann is great for beginners and intermediates, but because I am maybe already getting more and more advanced I thought I should switch to Sicilian to, you know, 'broaden' my chess understanding with sharper and attacking, and broader positions with the Sicilian Defense as black.

I also play the scotch as white because I like sharp positions I guess (I don't know if it's my strength, I don't know how to identify it, because I also play nimzo against d4 and idk if that's attacking?)

And Sicilian is also attacking

What do you guys think? Because learning a new opening takes some time you know

And should I just instantly go for the e5 Najdorf? Or something more slow like scheveningen setups, or even dragon, or maybe taimanov (that was the one with qc7 and e6 right?)
or kalashnikov or sveshnikov
I DONT KNOW!!!
Or does the opening at my level don't matter? That's also possible

The time control was 60+10 so it was fast classical
Although I drew I think it's very educational also if you help me 😉

I also underestimated my chances after 0-0-0.
The rook endgame was also really educational, we also did analysis after the game

Also 27... Kf6 was a blunder I guess because of Kd5 followed by Kc7 winning b7
But instead he played f4. He also had like 5 minutes at the clock at the end tho, I had like 20.

And is the pawn endgame winning or drawn by the way (after he trades on d7 at the end)

Also I don't understand why 16... 0-0 is the best move by the engine (to not try to take the pawn on c3). I played 16... Nxb3 trading everything

I am only like 1700 national classical but 1900 rapid national (so I don't know if im 1700 tho but for now I am)

So max warmerdam is a young 26 yo dutch gm, with a peak rating of 2679! But after that, he's been dropping insane amounts of elo points.

His may rating is 2515! He's dropped 164 elo points since September 2024, which is like a little over 1.5 years.

How could this be possible and are there other gm's having such drops at young age?

He is constantly losing or drawing, rarely even winning against 2500's.

He's also lost and drawn to a bunch of 2200-2400's. I mean, a few half-point slip ups against 2300-2400's is normal, because if they are just playing extremely solid and for a draw like a scared cat, sometimes you cannot win. But losing against 2300's as a strong gm? Okay but this cannot be right.

No hate to xamax but I just want to know what's going on, because it can't be rust because he plays many tournaments every month
