Achilles rupture week 6 post op , hard cast, radiologist and Surgeon disagree on rerupture
Going to try and keep this as minimal as possible. Achilles rupture. Hard cast for 6 weeks.
April 3 - Ruptured Right achilles tendon, basketball, knew it instantly. I have torn the left achilles (this time, the right one). Had surgery on the left one, came back stronger all good. Felt it would be the same this time around. Wrong.
Week 6 post op, in hard cast, I stretched involuntarily. Felt a pop. Literally was just laying in bed, on my back, leg propped up, in a hard cast. Pandiculation; the forced body yawn. No pressure, no fall, just a POP. I freaked.
My Surgeon orders an MRI. I go and take the MRI. Radiologist say "Full achilles rupture 2-2.5cm in length." My surgeons response, verbatim "he is fine, stay the course." I call my doctor, and the nurse (she’s spectacular, basically an angel) tells me to trust the surgeon. I have an appointment with him tomorrow to understand what this means, and why he disagrees with the radiologist.
Update: my surgeon was correct; radiologists and surgeons read MRI’s very differently after orthopedic surgery. There’s still tension in my sutures, and healing. Out of hard cast (6 weeks) and now I’ll be in a walking boot for 6 more weeks.
