
In listening to the last Love Trapped episode (jumped on the bandwagon here after binge listening all last week), I finally realized why LO makes me so angry. It was during the part where Gringas was talking about the money owed to Clayton and how “there are no debtor’s prisons in the US anymore.” Of course he’s an idiot, as is Laura, and I wouldn’t expect them to know this — but there is OVERWHELMING proof of imprisonment due to debt all over the US, mostly impacting low income BIPOC folks:

The caucasity of that statement and just the caucasity of this whole situation is enraging. Fact is, white privilege is at play here and as someone who works with BIPOC survivors of (REAL) sexual assault and domestic violence, who often don’t get a fair chance at justice in this legal system, it is so maddening to see LO not (yet) have to face consequences.
