As a current HS teacher, what can I do next?
Hey everyone! (Throw-away account to avoid conflict at my current school). I need advice. I am a female, high school teacher in her mid-twenties. I’ve always been very interested in teaching but didn’t originally plan on teaching HS. I don’t have a state teaching license (I teach at a charter school) but do have a BA & MA in English with a research concentration in social medicine. Previously, I had goals of teaching at the college level, but I’ve since reconsidered these goals for a number of reasons not relevant to this initial post. My question, and/or the advice I’m seeking, is regarding what I should/can do next. I do not wish to sound at all arrogant, but I am very, very good at teaching. I teach a variety of humanities-based classes, one of which I’ve designed entirely independently and from scratch. I also receive an immense amount of genuine praise from my administration, which validates the endless effort I’ve been putting into lesson plans, grading, student support, etc. But, as I’m sure echos 99% of teacher out there, I am LOSING IT in this position. I work through every evening and weekend, receive endless praise, act as a mentor to developing young adults, and accommodate every parent’s concern, question, or request, yet I get paid less than a general manger at a local store. I cannot do it much longer and need advice regarding what to do next. What kinds of jobs out there will, first of all, consider me a suitable candidate with my educational and employment background and, secondly, offer similar feelings of fulfillment through opportunities to express creativity, problem-solve, and (bonus points) educate in some kind of fashion?
Thank you in advance for any advice you can provide. I desperately need it. I’m starting to feel very defeated
