Hi everyone,

I’m curious if anyone here has ever built a loudspeaker similar to mine.

I’ve spent days refining the design and optimizing it acoustically, but I’ve now hit a major roadblock: CNC machining turned out to be far more expensive than expected — around €2000 per unit. My initial plan was to have the enclosure milled from Corian, but that doesn’t seem economically viable anymore.

I’m now exploring alternative manufacturing approaches that can still deliver high precision and acoustic performance at a more reasonable cost. One idea I’m considering is hot-wire cutting the base shape from Styrodur and then laminating it with carbon fiber, Kevlar, and butyl for stiffness and damping.

Has anyone here tried something similar or found a cost-effective way to produce complex, acoustically optimized enclosures without compromising quality? Any insights, experiences, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot in advance!

Best regards
