[IA] How do you explain overtime pay when employees think their paycheck is “lower” after taxes?

I’m trying to understand the best way HR professionals explain overtime pay when employees feel like they’re actually earning less per hour after taxes or withholding changes.

Even though I know overtime doesn’t push all income into a higher tax bracket, the perception is still common

Do you have a simple way you communicate this without going too deep into tax structure?

I didn’t realize how much overtime was actually changing my take-home pay

I’ve been working a bit of overtime lately (nothing crazy, like 5–10 hours extra a week), and I always assumed it would just be regular pay + 50% more.

But what surprised me is how different the final paycheck actually looks after taxes and deductions.

I tried breaking it down just to understand where the money was going, and I realized the extra isn’t always what it seems when withholding kicks in.

Has anyone else actually calculated their real net gain from overtime? I always hear people say overtime is worth it but I feel like it depends a lot more on your tax situation than people think.
